4 Stress-free Tips for a Rained Out Photography Session
You look at the forecast. Yep. The one day this week that it’s going to rain is the one day that your photography session is scheduled. Murphy’s Law. Chin up! The game isn’t over yet…
1. Don’t look too early – Don’t look at the forecast too early. I’m not sure what amount of schooling is needed to become a predictor of the clouds but for some meteorologists, I seriously question their qualifications. Especially here in Texas, the weather can change at the drop of a hat. Don’t set yourself up for unnecessary anxiety by constantly refreshing the 10 day forecast. Check a couple days before the session. Odds are, if it’s less than a 40% chance of rain two days out, you have a pretty good chance of it working out! Any more than that and it might be time to pull out the calendar.
2. Make the final decision at least 24 hours in advance. This gives everyone ample time to cancel any hair, makeup, rentals, etc without incurring additional fees. And if you took the day off work, go treat yourself to a movie with no lines or shopping at the mall with out the crowds!
3. This is an opportunity, not a setback! Don’t look at your rescheduled session as a bad thing. Perhaps this gives you an opportunity to schedule your photos during cooler weather (or warmer weather!) Rather than pushing forward through fog and overcast skies, rescheduling could be a great opportunity for you to roll the dice again and take another chance to obtain the perfect weather scenario.
4. When life gives you rain, you buy Wellies! – Think of it as another opportunity to go shopping! Rainy day boots, umbrellas, ponchos and weathered hair can make for some steamy and romantic photos! So embrace the crappy weather (and the waterproof mascara!) This could be the most fun you’ve had in a long time. <3
